Of all the x-factors for the Carolina Panthers in 2026, one stands head and shoulders above the rest. Either starting quarterback Bryce Young will take a step forward in his development and help turn his team into a true contender, or he'll continue only posting great games three or four times a year.
If the answer is the latter, it will not only be bad news for Carolina's future, but it could also mean the end of Young's tenure as the team's starter. According to Alex Kay at Bleacher Report, Young is one of the NFL's starters most likely to lose their jobs.
Kay writes:
The issue with pulling Young from the starting lineup—as it was in 2024 —is that the Panthers do not have a reliable backup that they can count on. The No. 2 option, Kenny Pickett, has thrown for as many interceptions as he has touchdowns over his underwhelming four-year career.
And with Will Grier having retired, the only other option on the roster right now is undrafted rookie Haynes King. We should get a good long look at King during the preseason—but for now, we have no clue what kind of potential he has at this level.
The Panthers may want to move on from Young at their starter if he disappoints this coming season. Finding his replacement will most likely have to wait until the 2027 NFL Draft, though.
