Likewise, I would doubt it too.

The Bengels are reputed even cheaper than the Cards. I buy the argument that they want to get their first pick signed, which is something they've had trouble doing.
The general word has been if they couldn't get Palmer basically signed then they would even go another direction. Getting their first pick signed early seemed to be right at the top of their priority list.

Bengals | Palmer Will Sign For Six Years - from www.KFFL.com
Thu, 24 Apr 2003 04:50:10 -0700

Updating previous reports, the Cincinnati Enquirer reports the contract between the Cincinnati Bengals and USC QB Carson Palmer is about 97 percent completed, according to a source close to the situation. While terms of the deal were not released, it is believed to be for six years with a signing bonus between $14.5 million and $15 million. As much as $11 million could be paid up front to Palmer, with the remaining paid in full if he makes the roster in 2004.

What is interesting is if the NFL approves the contract, then Detroit can start negotiating with players....
Heck, if this works out, we could have our pick signed before the draft!!

I would guess that the reason the team with the first pick can pretty much do that when no one else can, is because they are the only ones guaranteed of getting who they want.

Hopefully this will lead to a slue of signings, Rogers with Detroit, Johnson with Houston, Jimmy Kennedy with Chicago, and so on and so forth...and hopefully before the draft!

Wouldn't that make picking #6 a heck of a lot easier...

Jon,
I'm not sure but, I think that the only team that can actually negotiate their contract and have it signed before the draft is the team with the first pick.

They have agreed to a Contract in Principle. I don't think he has signed anything yet.
