The spring window of the NCAA transfer portal officially opened on Wednesday, and it will be open for players to enter until April 25th. Paperwork must be submitted to enter the portal in that range, but players can commit to schools at any point after the portal window closes. With spring football closed or wrapping up for most programs around the country, the spring transfer portal is the final chance for teams to add to their rosters before the 2025 season. The Oklahoma Sooners have added two players so far in the spring portal window in Stanford offensive lineman Jake Maikkula and Cal running back Jaydn Ott.

But OU has also seen a total of five players enter the spring portal with two more subtractions happening on Wednesday. Defensive backs Peter Schuh and Jocelyn Malaska have decided to enter the portal.

Schuh was a preferred walk-on who chose Oklahoma over PWO offers from Clemson, Michigan State and others. He played in two games on special teams in 2022, participating in wins against Kent State and Nebraska. He didn’t play in 2023, but took part in two games last season, seeing the field in victories over Temple and Maine.

Walk-ons and preferred walk-ons are dwindling in the new age of college football as teams are trimming rosters to 105 due to new NCAA and conference rules. In the SEC, teams are currently allowed to have walk-ons, but that is expected to change soon. With the current regulations and the current roster crunch to get down to 105 total players, programs like Oklahoma have been hit very hard this season, losing many of their walk-on players.

After much consideration, I will be entering the transfer portal with 2-3 years of eligibility remaining. I am extremely thankful for my time at the University of Oklahoma. Thank you to Coach Venables for the opportunity to be a sooner. pic.twitter.com/VA5NXTMtET

As for Malaska, he played just one season in Norman, after spending his first two collegiate seasons at Utah. He's a local product from Bethany, Oklahoma and was 247Sports' No. 13 prospect from the Sooner State. He played in the win against Temple in 2024.

Schuh and Malaska join tight end Davon Mitchell, fellow defensive back Mykel Patterson-McDonald and running back Sam Franklin as the five Sooners who have currently entered the portal this spring.
