Henry Jokiharju and Joonas Korpisalo from the Boston Bruins won the gold medal at the 2026 IIHF Men’s World Championships on Sunday.
The gold medal featured Finland taking on Switzerland, and it was Finland that won 1-0 in overtime, as Konsta Helenius scored at 10:42 of the extra frame, giving Finland the win. It’s the third gold medal in seven years at the event for Finland.
Jokiharju skated in 10 games, recording two goals and six assists for 8 points. He was also selected for the 2026 World Championship All-Star Team. He led all Finnish defensemen in points.
Korpisalo, meanwhile, was Finland’s backup in the gold medal game, but he started two games in the tournament and went 2-0-0 with a 0.50 GAA and a .947 SV%.
Both Jokiharju and Korpisalo also won an Olympic bronze medal with Finland earlier this year.
Meanwhile, Bruins’ forward Fraser Minten had a chance to win a bronze medal on Sunday with Team Canada, but Norway upset the Canadian by a score of 3-2 in overtime. It was Norway’s first medal in IIHF history at any top-division tournament.
Minten finished the tournament with one goal and three assists for four points in 10 games for Team Canada.
Jokiharju and Korpisalo were the only two Bruins players to medal, after James Hagens, Mason Lohrei, Alex Steeves and Team USA fell 4-0 to Canada in the quarterfinal on Thursday, Matěj Blümel and Czechia lost 4-1 to Finland in the quarterfinal, while Lukas Reichel and Germany didn’t qualify for the quarters.
