Trades between division rivals are somewhat rare in Major League Baseball. Trades on the day of the deadline are not.
The San Francisco Giants and San Diego Padres put aside their differences Monday, Aug. 3, to agree on a trade that will send veteran left-hander Robbie Ray to San Diego.

The return to the Giants is not yet known.
Ray, 34, was a National League All-Star in 2025, and won the 2021 American League Cy Young Award with the Toronto Blue Jays.
In 22 games (21 starts) this season, Ray is 10-6 with a 3.08 ERA. He has a 1.29 WHIP.
