The Padres have checked in on right-handed pitcher Kodai Senga, per a report by Joel Sherman. The 33-year-old has struggled mightily this year, as he has an 8.66 ERA and a 6.50 FIP in 44.2 innings of work.

Senga’s outstanding 2023 season increasingly feels like a distant memory, as he’s also struggled to stay healthy enough to pitch. Since the beginning of the 2024 season, he’s thrown a total of just 163.1 innings, the vast majority of which came in the first half of the Mets’ ill-fated 2025 season.

As for his contract, Senga is signed through the 2027 season, the final one of the five-year, $75 million deal that he signed with the Mets ahead of the 2023 season. It would be surprising to see another team trade for him, but perhaps a change of scenery would benefit both the player and the Mets, even if only to free up a roster spot so the team can take a look at someone else at the major league level.
