Padres' Yu Darvish responds to retirement rumors with major update on MLB future originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.

On Saturday afternoon, the San Diego Padres got some major news when an article from Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune was released, which revealed Yu Darvish was planning to retire.

It was a significant update, as the 39-year-old is recovering from surgery to repair a torn UCL. With tens of millions left on his deal, it's a big bit of news.

However, the veteran pitcher took to Twitter/x with a major update on his retirement. Darvish revealed that he has not made a decision to retire just yet, despite the report from Acee indicating that Darvish had already made a decision.

Yu Darvish reveals major update on Retirement rumors

"You may have seen an article, and although I am leaning towards voiding the contract, there's till a lot that has to be talked over with the Padres, so the finer details are yet to be decided," Darvish announced. "Also, I will not be announcing my retirement yet."

This is a big update from Darvish. While the earlier report indicated a decision had been made, this update from Darvish indicates nothing is final, and he could still come back to play in the Majors in the future.

While it might not be likely, with the 39-year-old looking to come back from a major surgery in his throwing elbow, there's still a chance his MLB career isn't done yet.

"Right now I am fully focused on my rehab for my elbow," Darvish writes. "And if I get to a point where I can throw again, I will start from scratch again to compete. If once I get to that point, I feel I can't do that, I will announce my retirement."

This is a very candid comment from Darvish, as he's not shying away from the difficult nature of coming back from such a devastating injury.

It won't be easy, but Darvish is going to try. If he can't overcome the injury, then he will announce that he's retiring from Major League Baseball.

But, for now, Darvish isn't retiring and will be trying to come back to the Majors, despite the report from Acee pointing to the contrary.
