Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love is a big-game hunter as a passer, and he's getting better and better at taking advantage of opportunities to push the ball downfield against favorable coverages.
According to Daire Carragher of PFF, Love was the NFL's highest graded quarterback against a pair of coverages during the 2025 season -- Cover 0 and Cover 1. These are "dare to throw deep" coverages.
Love's grade was 92.2 (out of 100) against Cover 0, which generally features man-to-man coverage, no deep safeties and multiple blitzers. It's an aggressive, all-or-nothing scheme. Love threw nine touchdown passes and zero interceptions and took zero sacks over 24 dropbacks against the coverage -- all incredible numbers against the chaos of that specific coverage.
Love's grade was also 92.2 against Cover 1, which includes a single deep safety and usually features man-to-man coverage. He finished with the third most passing yards and had only three turnover-worthy plays against the coverage.
Not surprisingly, Love excelled when defenses provided opportunities to throw downfield. Cover 0 and Cover 1 generally feature man coverage and invite deep shots, and the Packers have the playcaller in Matt LaFleur, the speed at wide receiver and the big-play hunting quarterback in Love to take advantage.
Another factor to consider is Love's improved ability to recognize blitzers and coverages pre-snap. This is especially important against Cover 0, a scheme that features blitzers coming from multiple alignments. Seeing it pre-snap, getting into the right protections and knowing where to go with the ball split-second post-post are all important factors to beating Cover 0.
Per Sumer Sports, Love ranked second in the NFL in EPA/play against the blitz in 2025.
Daring Love to throw deep is a dangerous proposition for defenses. He was excellent against the blitz-heavy, man-to-man schemes of Cover 0 and Cover 1 in 2025. The Packers should be equally dangerous in 2026 now that Christian Watson and Jayden Reed are locked in long term and Matthew Golden will ascend into a starting role.
