The Indiana Pacers were able to pull out a hard-fought win to open their Summer League schedule. They defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers by a final score of 99-93.
During the game, head coach Rick Carlisle spoke out about quite a few things. One of the topics that was addressed was the health of superstar point guard Tyrese Haliburton.
Of course, Haliburton missed the entire 2025-26 NBA season due to a torn Achilles that he suffered in Game 7 of the NBA Finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Without him on the court, the Pacers limped through last year, compiling a 19-63 record.
Carlisle offered a very positive update about Haliburton.
"Ty's doing well. He's been playing 5-on-5 for a long time," Carlisle said.
"It's going to be a bit of a journey for him. But he's aggressively attacking the summer."
It seems likely that Indiana will be careful with Haliburton to start off the 2026-27 season. There may not be a strict "minute count" for him, but the Pacers cannot afford to push him too far too fast.
Back in the 2024-25 season that ended with a magical run to the NBA Finals, Haliburton posted big-time numbers. He played in 73 games, averaging 18.6 points per game to go along with 9.2 assists, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.4 steals, while shooting 47.3 percent from the floor and 38.8 percent from the three-point line.
His numbers were a bit down from the previous two years, but he was still an elite point guard.
At 26 years old, Haliburton still has most of his career ahead of him. The Pacers have built a very competitive roster around him, especially with the new faces of Ivica Zubac and Kelly Oubre Jr. now in town.
Hopefully, the recovery process continues going smoothly for Haliburton. At least for now, there is only good news coming out of Indiana about his status.
The Pacers will next face off against the Philadelphia 76ers in Summer League action on Saturday afternoon with tip off scheduled for 5:30 p.m. ET.
