News flash

Kirk Gibson used the same starting batting order two games in a row (in Game 2 vs. the Padres). The same starting batting order two games in a row!

It is a shame it took injuries for that to happen. Of course, we will be approaching the 40-man roster/September callups.

And, oh yes, :sarcasm: :)

Nuno can't buy a win as a D'back.

Perez was one pitch away from making Gibson look really good, alas it was not to be. It's easy to criticize the decision to bring a lefty in to face right handed hitters, but with Ziegler struggling there is nobody in the back end of the bullpen who can be trusted to pitch out of a jam.

Steve Berthiaume said, "It looks like we found our shortstop."

After Didi hit a 3-run home run, Bob Berthiaume said, "It looks like we found our shortstop." Despite Didi's BAVG/OBP of .213/.296, which is far worse than last year's .252/.332, when he lost the job to Chris Owings and was sent to the Minors.

I wonder if Steve is speaking for himself or for the organization. Granted, Didi has used his opportunity since Owings was injured to emerge as our best fielding SS. But .213/.296 is pretty pathetic. Batting 8th as he does, that's two dead spots in the batting order back-to-back.

Steve also said that Aaron Hill could move to 3B, a position he hasn't played in a long time. Which means that Owings could move to 2B, as some of you surmised in earlier posts.

If this is the thinking of the Front Office, are they preparing for the possible failures of rookies of Ahmed at SS (.228 in 57 AB) and Lamb at 3B (.217 so far in 46 AB)? I also read about the possibility of trading Pennington to a team who would give him a chance at a starting SS job.

Or is the idea that Kirk Gibson is sticking around and will have a field day with no set lineup at 2B-SS-3B? Five players covering three starting positions, none of them given the chance to settle in. 15 different combinations to choose from every game (if my math is correct).

As someone posted about a similar scenario earlier this season, I would have a stroke. :D
