Owen softball middle infielder Mia Roland announced her commitment to South Carolina on Sept. 16.
"I am truly thankful and thrilled to share my decision to pursue my athletic and academic journey at the University of South Carolina," Roland said via Instagram.
She is ranked No. 71 overall in the nation and the No. 21 middle fielder in the Class of 2027 by Softball America.
Roland has been one of Western North Carolina's top softball players since she started playing for Owen as a freshman in 2023.
As a sophomore in 2024, she had a .600 batting average with six doubles, two triples, 10 home runs and 36 RBIs while stealing 20 stolen bases. Her 10 home runs were tied for 19th most in North Carolina. Her slugging percentage of 1.267 was good enough for 21st best in the state.

Roland helped the Warhorses reach the third round of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association 2A playoffs before they were eliminated by Randleman.
South Carolina finished the 2025 season ranked No. 10 in the nation in the USA Softball/ESPN poll.
