Portland Oregon these days.
Just curious -- does this say anything about their confidence in their coach? As a matter of rule they always sign the coach before his final contract year, and only for 2 years basically gets them through the possible strike.

Or am I making too much out of this ?

Hey times are tough in this economy. I can see teams signing players & coaches to shorter contracts because of bonuses & fear of paying a coach $$$ after he's fired. Just my 2 cents & maybe only worth a pennie :D

Yeah, that is kind of weird, Brighteyes.

Tomlin was hired over both Whis and Grimm, yet he gets a 2 and an option 3.

Whis got a 4 and an option 5.

But Tomlin and his agent agreed to it so I don't know what is going on.

Not weird to me, Tomlin inherited Cowhers team, now they wanna see what he can actually do, Personally I don't think he's a good coach

If we're comparing, though Tomlin has the Super Bowl ring, I think in context Whis has earned the larger contract. The Steelers won a championship just prior to Tomlin's arrival and he has been largely staying the course. Whis set the course we're on.

Let me put my paranoia hat on for a moment:

From the standpoint of off-the-field nonsense by too many Steeler players (of the kind that probably doesn't amuse the Rooneys very much), ownership could be sending a message to everyone in the organization - from Big Ben to the ticket clerks to Tomlin - that the team had better clean up its act.
