Interesting that even Seattle feels like it has an issue

my hawt take:

1. We are a far wealthier society than even 30 years ago -- and dropping some $ to go travel to see your fav team play in a diff stadium is far more affordable than it used to be. When i was a kid: the idea of flying somewhere for a long weekend was the stuff of the super wealthy. People do it all the time now

2. Certain sunbelt / high growth cities just have transplants. It used to be from cold weather states -- now its from high tax / high cost of living places. Three of my new neighbors all have moved here from California in the last 24 months.

Sort of. But the location is more of the issue. You’re never going to see 30k opposing fans in Indianapolis.
I think Bearsfan make make the drive when a miracle happens and the Bears are good.

Bulls’ fans take over Pacer games. Cubs do it to Milwaukee

I appreciate the ownership of the teams mentioned in the article taking a more aggressive approach versus our ownership building casitas and such! We have an open door / come on in policy!

the Cards problem is really three fold:

1. they reside in a metro area that has doubled in size in the last 30 years from in-migration

2. they reside in an attractive football season vacation destination

3. they haven't been good: the prospects of travelling to see your team play are more attractive if they are likely to win!

the organization cant do much about 1 and 2 -- but it sure can address no 3.

I really believe if, lets say, the Cards boatrace the Seahawks a couple times in a row -- it will cut down on AZ as a destination for them.

A couple of times? It would need to be a couple of seasons in a row, at least...
