hey fellas,...ladies,... sorry for the off topic post but I am a bit tickled with myself and just wanted to share it with y'all.

I do not smoke.

I started smoking in June of 1979.

I stopped smoking on March 2nd, 2015

Today has been three weeks as a non smoker....three weeks ago I never thought I would see this day. For the past 36 years I never thought I would see this day. When this day finally came I almost missed it. I have a pack of smokes on my night stand but I have not really noticed it the past couple days....and today...I drove in to town and back without a hitch.
I am done.
Every time I look at my calendar and see it becoming more and more days since my last smoke it brings tears of joy to my eyes. Next week I will get to say "Thirty days" or "a month"

its the simple things I guess

I smoked Camel straights for 30 years. Finally quit 10 years ago. I admit I got hooked on nicorette but I hope to god I never light another one..
Congrats man. You'll start feeling better soon enough.

I don't know if I'll ever start smoking again, but I know I'll never quit again.

I used Chantix.....stuff is amazing...I believe in my heart that it has saved my life.

of course,...some previously unknown side effect may kill me five years from now, lol...who knows right?

Awesome post man. I've been trying to quit forever it seems like. I've been smoking for almost 30 years now, so I know how hard it is. Keep fighting the good fight.

have you tried Chantix?

has some pretty nasty side effects for some,...but for me just minor nausea, light headache the first week...hungry the first week too....then kinda grumpy the second week...daytime sleepiness throughout..thirsty all the time..

nothing that made it so bad I would rather stay smoking.

Great news for you. I too quit after a decade of nearly two packs a day. It took me a good 5 years before I lost my urge to smoke. It's a hard journey, but stay focused and you can do it. The extra cash you find yourself with is nice too.

Congrats, stay strong.

Get rid of all left over cigs, hide the ashtrays and stay away from triggers like bars and lots of coffee.

You can do it!

Congrats and keep it up. I didn't smoke for very long(1982-1987) but I was a near 2 pack a day menthol smoker in that time. I would go through 2 packs easy when I went bar hopping. On 1/1/87 I quit cold turkey. Back then there wasn't Nicorette, Chantix, electric smokes, etc. With the exception of smoking one as a goof, I haven't smoked since. Good luck and keep it up.

Awesome!

Ozzy Osbourne (whom I consider an expert on drugs) said cigarettes was the hardest drug to quit out of all the drugs he has done, and he has done them all.

Been six weeks now that I have been a non smoker. Pretty sure it was easier the first few weeks,lol....

I have to say, I do find it pretty amusing the way the mind plays tricks on you,....twisting up a situation to justify just having that one...just the one.....

over all it has gone pretty well...stopped taking the Chantix last week...been completely off of it for about five days or so now.

the worst issue at the moment is the overwhelming urge to punch somebody in the face...not anyone in particular, just anybody...the urge comes and goes...but when present, it feels like that activity would be highly amusing.
I am kind of anti social anyway so it has not been a huge deal at this point.

ghost smells........yeah...

the other day I went outside and my back yard smelled like cantaloupe.....

walked into the master bath last week and had to ask the ol'lady why our bathroom smells like bacon...she said it does not smell like bacon,....me,"of course it does, so why?"....
she was taking a crap..............

really hoping the ghost smells go away soon.

anyway...going well...when the urges do hit, I just have to remind myself that I don't smoke....because that is a choice I made....and shortly thereafter the urge goes away

couple folks have told me,...six months like this and I got it licked.....few others have said prepare to be like this the rest of my life.....guess we are gonna see.

I understand that Chantix helps however I know others who have used it to help them stop smoking and they got off it after just a couple of weeks all because of the side effects. The smell thing may be from the Chantix. One guy I know told me he was going into depression from the Chantix.

yeah the Chantix does have a wide variety of side effects. I did a ton of research before taking it,...and during as well. which side affects hit you,...and when,...varies from person to person. Insomnia, hunger, depression, rage, tiredness, anxiety....any of these can hit you while taking the meds...or after you stop.

by reading testimonials I was able to get some advanced warning on what may be coming next.... the main reason I stopped taking Chantix when I did, instead of doing the entire 12 wk program, was because I did not want any affects to get worse. I was just starting to feel the beginning effects of depression kicking in after about 4 weeks on full dose...so I dropped back to half a dose. After adjusting to that for a couple of weeks I stopped entirely. As soon as I dropped back from the full dosage the depression affects faded.

It is not for everybody but it has been a miracle for me.

Congrats Oaken, simply the hardest thing I ever did was quit smoking many years ago. That lasted for 8 years and they as you say your mind wages war on you and I picked up a cig. Got hooked again for several years but now have quit for good over a year ago.

Chantix messed with me a bit so I switched to Bupropen and had almost no side effects. I used it with the patch and quitting this time was kinda of annoying but not god awful hard like is was the first time I quit.

I almost never think of smoking a cig now and it only last for a second.

Don't pick up another cig and keep strong.
