Yeah, you know who you are. You think you're better at analytics than Billy Bean-o. So answer this one:
Here is the "official" dimensions of home plate, in inches:
Notice there are three right angles in this irregular polygon. Pay attention to the right angle at the bottom of the image. If this is true, the bottom half of home plate is a right triangle, and bears the attributes of the Pythagorean Theorem, which says the square of the hypotenuse of a right triangle equals the sum of the squares of the component sides, or "a² + b² = c²."
Unfortunately, 12² + 12² = 288 ≠ 289 = 17²
So who's right? Pythagoras or baseball?
