Still in shock of this news. He was one of the great and upcoming talents that was cut short. His girlfriend is pregnant too. Such a sad day for baseball and sports. RIP Jose

Saw on news this morning it was a boating accident. Man, this kid had a HOF type of career ahead of him, goes to show how short life can be.

Just sad. A guy with a personality and talent that drew you in and made you care. Absolutely infectious talent and it still seems unreal that he's gone.

Thoughts to his family and the families of the other individuals with him.

Really nice ceremony in Miami tonight. Dee Gordon came up and took a pitch from the right side for Jose and then led of the game with his first HR of the year ..... I think he kicked some dust into my eyes rounding the bases

Yes. The last time any Marlin will.

The rendition of take me out to the ballgame with pictures of Jose on the big screen was rough and then all the players running some dirt from the mound into their pants.

Difficult night for those boys

In the hours before his boat crashed violently into a jetty off South Beach on Sunday morning, killing him and two friends, Miami Marlins ace José Fernández purportedly argued with his girlfriend and was seen at a Miami River bar.

The beloved 24-year-old pitcher, who was honored Monday night in an emotional ceremony by the team he left behind, died when his 32-foot SeaVee named “Kaught Looking” slammed into the Government Cut north jetty. Emilio Jesus Macias, 27, and Eduardo Rivero, 25, were also killed.

Its still early. So its still a sensitive subject, but I am curious when we can start getting into the forensic phase. Im very interested in hearing what actually happened.

How fast was the boat going when it made impact (BC its not like it was a speeder or anything), were they killed by hitting the rocks, or did the boat crush them?

very odd that this killed 3 people without drowning being the cause.

From what I have read, they died on impact with the jetty.

So it was like a Jayne Mansfield deal where their bodies hit the jetty? Or were they crushed by the boat against the jetty?

So, likely a drinking and boating accident with three fatalities? Sad and totally preventable.

First reports say that no alcohol was involved (as least from the driver). Probably tried to show off and do high-speed turn into the channel, and missed.

A fast boat at night is dangerous, even when sober.

Right, but then there is this report, from above:

We don't have all of the details yet, but it wouldn't surprise me one bit if it was related to drinking and boating.
