The San Antonio Spurs and forward Jeremy Sochan have agreed on his release to allow the 2023 All-Rookie team member to become a free agent, sources tell ESPN. Sochan is expected to decide among multiple interested teams

They've always had one, even before the trade. The reason why we didn't fill it was because of money. Things have changed since the trade though.
Ok, right, so the trade was a 2 for 2 which means there's an open spot either for converting a Bouyea 2-way or signing a released FA like Sochan. Doing both would require waiving someone (Anthony).

The Knicks and Suns were among the teams who had trade discussions surrounding former Spurs forward Jeremy Sochan prior to the trade deadline, as I previously reported on
@hoopshype. Something to keep in mind as he becomes a free agent now and both teams have open roster spots.

I love this kid, but he is essentially another Ryan Dunn- a bit bigger and a bit worse from three. How do you get him playing time? Also, he'll need paid this offseason.
But it can't hurt to test drive him the rest of the year. And with the Suns' penchant for injuries, there will probably be PT available at some point.

I have my doubts he will be much help, but for a free trial why not.

idk - sometimes when a team says you're free to go there's something more to it but if we had already enquired about getting him it probably means they've already thought about fit

When he was a regular on the Spurs a few years ago, I didn't think much of him. Whenever he stood out it seemed like it was because he screwed up.

He does a lot of the little things, similar to Dillon Brooks. But he doesn't do enough of the big things to make him a necessity and I don't see how he fits in with our system.

IMO you can never have enough bodies but I don't know if he will be worth the cost to get him? I remember last year watching a game and the commentators were talking about his elite defensive skills against good players. I didn't follow him or couldn't comment on that but I do remember hearing them talk about it how he was one of their best switch defenders.

If that is the case (I have not followed), I get the Sun's interest with their emphasis on defense.

I'm still surprised they let him go. Pop tried hard to develop him as a PG once they drafted Wemby 3 years back and ran him as their starter almost the whole season. Once they got Castle though they turned him into a Sixth Man kind of. He would have hit restricted free agency this summer but I guess they abandoned ship early.

He doesn't seem to have a bad attitude or be a locker room issue either.

If we don't make a play for him, I'll be upset. He'd fill a need and has some untapped talent.

You can have too many bodies. Young people need attention to develop. Its like planting a garden. Sometimes you have to cull the bed to give the better plants room to grow.

Yeah, he is so similar to Dunn and Flemming. I love the kid, but I can't figure out how to get minutes for everyone.

I'm not saying he will be a guaranteed game changer or anything like that. But knowing how things typically go, I can see the Suns passing on him and then getting hit by a spate of bad luck injuries in the front court the last half of the season, and everyone going "geez, if we had only picked up Sochan when the opportunity presented itself."

We ARE talking about the Suns, after all. Misfortune is a given.

Despite the Suns’ recent interest in Jeremy Sochan as a potential trade target, a source told
@GeraldBourguet
it’s unlikely they pursue him on the buyout market

Yup, can only put five players out there at a time.
