Tim MacMahon GOES OFF on Bam 83 point game

“He’s jacking up 3s triple teamed! It was honestly just awful, hideous, disgusting basketball down the stretch… I never ever (x6) want to hear about Heat culture & professionalism and all that crap again because that was the most blatant stat chasing I’ve ever seen! It was embarrassing for the wizards and egregious for the Heat. I enjoyed the ethical 39 by Wemby more than I did the egregious 83.”

“43 shots, 43 FTs, I saw some highlights… 83 points is impressive but it gets to a point you have to respect the game. There were moments in this game it wasn’t respected. It’ll go down as 2nd most in the game, I’m putting an asterisk by this one”

I’m only mildly surprised to see some of the hate. Book got it too with his 70 point game. At least bam won his game. It’s still basketball. Unless the other team was purposefully fouling him or giving him free paths to the basket to all this he still had to actually accomplish it.

I saw a really interesting post on FB comparing Bam's 83 to Kobe's 81 and how they both got it. Bam was stat chasing and had half his points at the free throw line. 83 is impressive, but it's not really close to how Kobe got his 81.

100% this. His team was probably feeding him the ball more than normal. However, Bam still has to put the ball in the hoop. He still has to stay aggressive. He made it to the free throw line challenging the defense instead of just relying on jump shots. Crappy defense or not, the amount of energy it takes to put up 83 if off the charts. It's not an NBA title or an MVP level accomplishment but put in perspective an accomplishment just the same.

Even the Celtics fans were cheering him on.

If you told me someone would score 83 tonight Bam wouldn't have been in my first 30 picks maybe even 50. I get the FT's but he had to make the shots. I think the idea that you give most NBA starters that much freedom they could do it is just not true, have to be just on a crazy heater. 31 in the first quarter and still didn't get the Klay 37 record but 83 is insane.
