Orioles Avoid Historic Losing Streak With Comeback Win Vs. Red Sox originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Prior to Tuesday, the Baltimore Orioles had yet to beat a division opponent on the road this year, starting 0-7 in away games against the AL East.
According to Baltimore Sun reporter Matt Weyrich, it was only the third time since the divisional era began in 1969 that the Orioles had started a season 0-7 on the road against divisional foes. The other two times were 1988 and 2009, both of which were horrendous seasons for Baltimore.
The Orioles had never started a season 0-8 on the road against the AL East, which would have happened if they had lost to the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park on Tuesday.
The Orioles have played in the AL East since the division's founding in 1969. Only 3x have they started a season 0-7 on the road against divisional foes:
-1988 (went on to finish 54-107)
-2009 (64-98)
-2026
They've never started 0-8. Orioles play the Red Sox in Boston tonight.

Fortunately for them, the Red Sox have been historically bad at home this year. That trend continued on Tuesday, as Boston lost again at Fenway in a 4-2 defeat.
While Baltimore avoided making history, the Red Sox fell to 9-20 at home this season --their worst start at Fenway since 1932.
The Orioles went down 1-0 in the first inning but immediately rallied, scoring four runs off Connelly Early over the next three frames to take a 4-1 lead. Baltimore held on for the 4-2 win, limiting Boston to just five hits.
The Orioles improved to 29-32 and have been hot lately, winning eight of their last 11. They'll see if they can keep rolling on Wednesday night behind Chris Bassitt against rookie southpaw Payton Tolle, who's been one of the Red Sox's best starting pitchers this year.
