The Baltimore Orioles needed more depth in their bullpen, especially in the form of left-handed relievers.

Both Keegan Akin and Dietrich Enns are on the injured list, and manager Craig Albernaz's southpaw options were limited. The AL East club attempted to mitigate that issue on Monday, making a trade with the St. Louis Cardinals.

Ari Alexander of Boston 7 News reported on Monday that the Orioles acquired left-hander Nick Raquet from the Cardinals in exchange for 22-year-old outfield prospect Brayden Smith.

Raquet, 30, has a 0.00 ERA in the Majors, thanks to two scoreless outings last September. He began the year at Triple-A Memphis, where he recorded three strikeouts and allowed one earned run in three innings.

The Orioles selected Smith in the 13th round of the 2025 draft. He posted a .671 OPS in 16 games at Single-A Delmarva last season, and began the year at High-A Frederick.

Raquet can hopefully weather the storm until Akin and Enns return. Akin has no timetable for his return with a left groin strain.
