Carrying on with some articles I’ve done over the past few weeks taking a look at performance metrics for basketball, I’ve dived back into sports-reference.com’s portal Stathead to gather numbers for individual players on the women’s team. I collected stats for each position group on the 2025-2026 Oregon squad along with Big Ten teams both seasons Oregon has played as part of the conference and Elite 8 teams post-pandemic (2020-2021 and beyond).

Before going into further detail, here is a brief primer on each of the statistics I thought useful for this project courtesy of sports-reference.com.

Ortg — Offensive Rating; an estimate of points the player scored per 100 possessions.

Drtg — Defensive Rating; an estimate of points the player allowed per 100 possessions.

OBPM — Offensive Box Plus/Minus; A box score estimate of the offensive points per 100 possessions a player contributed above a league-average player, translated to an average team.

DBPM — Defensive Box Plus/Minus; A box score estimate of the defensive points per 100 possessions a player contributed above a league-average player, translated to an average team.

BPM — Box Plus/Minus; A box score estimate of the points per 100 possessions a player contributed above a league-average player, translated to an average team. Equivalent to adding the OBPM and DBPM.

PERPlayer Efficiency Rating; a measure of a player’s per-minute contribution adjusted so that the league average is 15.

Each roster was censored so that any player who appeared in fewer than 24 games in a season would not influence the results. After this, a median for the various advanced stat categories was computed for each position group Stahead tracks (Guard, Forward, and Center) for players on teams reached the round of eight in from 2021 through 2025, as well as all Big Ten teams in the past two seasons. I’ve compiled the medians for both categories along with individual performances for Oregon’s personnel during the past season.

Sofia Bell10992459.113.1
Ari Long93872.65.88.414
Avary Cain91961.12.83.98.5

Of the guards returning next year the most valuable by far is Fiso who is nearly a full E8 standard deviation above median in PER and barely below the E8 median in BPM. Bell trailed in PER (as she wasn’t moving the ball down the court the way Fiso was) but was very productive once she got the ball in her hands and excellent on defense. Long provides serviceable depth, but rising Junior Cain has quite a way to go to match the production the team got from graduating Senior Astera Tuhina. Coach Graves seems to like his options here as he didn’t look to add to this group from the portal.

With Amina Muhammad graduating and Sarah Rambus departing via the portal it’s no wonder that the staff picked up a pair of transfer forwards in the off season. Jacobs is a solid Big Ten player, but Tilliander doesn’t appear to measure up as more than occasional relief. Ehis Etute is listed as a forward on the roster, but Oregon had no center listed on the team this past season and her use seemed to better fit that position.

E8 Med1128144.78.921.9
Ehis Etute113858.13.511.630.9

Can someone who follows this team more closely than I do explain why Etute only started 20 games last season? Based on these numbers Graves should have only let her come off the court if she was dying. It’s also quite interesting the Big Ten conference centers have a slightly higher median PER than the E8. I suspect it’s some statistical noise from players being listed as forwards like Etute but such questions are beyond the scope of this article.

Overall each position group has at least one player who is a solid Big Ten conference player if not an elite contributor. There is concern about overall depth, but the team has some young players coming through the pipeline who may challenge for minutes. The concerns I can see going into the 26-27 season are finding a solid rotation for the forwards and another viable center. Transfer Hilary Fuller is 6′ 2″ and listed as a forward (just like Etute who is only listed at 6′ 0″), while incoming Freshman Emilia Krstevski arrives at a commanding 6′ 4″. Both could be important to counter some of the elite “bigs” the Ducks are likely to see in the post season.

While I found more granular insights by combining this project with my previous article, I would be remiss not to mention some limits of what data I had to work with. It is very nice to be able to separate players by position groups as many of these advanced stats tend to favor players who show up more often in the box score (ie, “bigs”). This is quite apparent looking at the median scores from guard, to forward, to center. With that said Stathead doesn’t differentiate between point and shooting guards, or large and small forwards. Not all players at a position are used the same way by different teams (or even listed appropriately), so this may have an effect when comparing an individual to the median in any given category. It’s also difficult to visualize the how far (relatively) from the median any player’s specific performance is. I computed the standard deviations in each of these categories for both B1G and E8 players. Unfortunately including them in the tables made the charts difficult to read so I omitted them.

Do these numbers agree with what you saw watching this team the past season? Are there any subtleties the analysis has missed? Let me know in the comments!
