Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks have missed out on one of their top recruiting targets in the 2026 class.
On Monday, elite cornerback recruit Havon Finney Jr. announced his commitment to LSU — choosing the Tigers over Oregon, USC, Ohio State and several other top college football programs.
Finney was ranked as the No. 1 cornerback and a top-5 overall recruit in 2027 before reclassifying to join the 2026 class. He took a visit to Oregon for the program's Junior Day on Jan. 25.
Finney, a standout cornerback for Los Angeles' Sierra Canyon School, announced his commitment to LSU live on 247Sports.com on Monday. The announcement was initially supposed to narrow his options down to a top-3, but he instead chose to surprise his mother with a commitment to the Tigers for her birthday.
"This process has been great, it's a blessing," Finney said. "It's always been a dream of mine to get to this point, and now I'm here."
"LSU was an easy choice for me," he added. "The coaching staff, the environment and alumni base that they have. I can build connections on and off the field there."
While Lanning and the Ducks missed out on this highly-touted recruit, the program still has a ton of talent arriving before the 2025 season. Oregon has the No. 5 ranked recruiting class in 2025, boasting three five-star and 16 four-star recruits.

The Ducks' 2025 recruiting class, which features No. 1 wide receiver Dakorien Moore, trails only Texas, Georgia, Alabama and Ohio State.
Oregon will kickoff its 2025 college football campaign with a matchup against Montana State on Aug. 30.
