The Oregon Ducks have a historical connection to Hawaii on the recruiting trail, and it could come in handy once again in the 2027 recruiting cycle.
Four-star linebacker Toa Satele announced his four finalists on Monday, which include Oregon, Texas, Cal and Notre Dame. The Ducks are in a good position to land one of the top linebackers in the country from Mililani High School, the same school that produced Dillon Gabriel.
Satele is the No. 68 player in the 2027 class and No. 4 linebacker, per the Rivals Industry Ranking. Standing at 6-foot-3 and 225 pounds, Satele is a major target for the Ducks and would become one of the top committed players in the class.
Cal and Texas appear to be the biggest competition for the Ducks. Tosh Lupoi has built a strong connection with Satele since he was in Eugene, and momentum has grown for the Golden Bears. After shuffling his official visit schedule, the Ducks will host Satele first among his finalists on May 29. Satele plans to commit on June 20, one week after his final visit to the Golden Bears.
Satele is an incredible athlete in the middle of the defense. He has the ability to play off the ball in coverage or develop into an edge player, and his football IQ is often on display as he runs sideline to sideline.
His father, Samson Satele, played guard and center at Hawaii before the Miami Dolphins selected him with a second-round pick in the 2007 NFL Draft. He spent eight years in the NFL, playing with the Dolphins, Oakland Raiders and Indianapolis Colts.
The top player out of Hawaii in the 2027 class would be a massive addition to Oregon's class, which has slipped in the national rankings recently. The Ducks now have the No. 10 class in the country after four-star corner and top-75 player Ai'King Hall flipped to Miami.
Oregon has two linebackers committed to the class already, with three-star Sam Ngata and four-star Brandon Lockley Jr., but Satele would become the third-best player in Oregon's class. Only five-star quarterback Will Mencl and four-star edge rusher Rashad Streets are ranked higher than Satele within Oregon's class.
