This is starting to become a habit quickly.

The college baseball season just completed its fourth week of action, and Oregon right fielder Angel has already been honored twice by the Big Ten.

Laya was the co-freshman of the week as he helped the Ducks win two-of-three games at Purdue this past week. In the series, Laya hit for a .364 batting average, had an on-base percentage of .500, and slugged .909 with a 1.409 OPS while hitting a pair of home runs and scoring four runs. He also slammed a homer against Oregon State earlier in the week at PK Park

For the season, Laya is absolutely raking at the plate as he has a .370 average, a .443 on-base percentage, while slugging a hefty .778. He was honored in the first week of the season as Oregon swept George Mason. He had a nice debut for the Ducks that week with two homers and a double.

Perhaps it shouldn't be such a shock that Laya is doing so well, so early. The San Diego native was the No. 12-ranked freshman out of the top 100 freshmen according to Perfect Game and the No. 6 outfielder and No. 17 player overall in California by Prep Baseball Report.

The Ducks are off to a hot start to the season as they are 12-3 overall. They are home for the next eight games, with two against Xavier and two conference series with Indiana and Northwestern over the next two weeks.
