The Seattle Seahawks' 2026 NFL draft rookie class reported to training camp on Friday, July 17. One rookie unfortunately wasn't a physical participant. The Seahawks recently confirmed that they placed defensive lineman Deven Eastern on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list.
Seahawks general manager John Schneider selected Eastern with the No. 242 overall selection in the seventh round of the NFL draft. Eastern was the Seahawks' second-last pick. Only cornerback Michael Dansby was a later selection (No. 255).
Eastern's placement on the PUP isn't totally shocking. The former Minnesota Golden Gophers standout missed much of OTAs and minicamp with an unspecified injury. Head coach Mike Macdonald did not need to discuss specific details during offseason workouts.
Eastern made 45 total appearances for the Golden Gophers throughout an impressive college football career. He participated in this past year's Senior Bowl and also earned an invitation to the NFL Combine. The Seahawks met with Eastern at various pre-draft events.
Eastern registered a career-high 38 tackles this past season and totaled 4.5 sacks at Minnesota. He's more of a run stopper than pass rusher. Every rookie needs reps at training camp. Hopefully Eastern can pass a physical soon and get back on the practice field.
