How much do you like SF's DE Ahmad Brooks (6-3, 265)?

He sure wreaked havoc on us. He looked explosive on the edge, and is just starting to come into his prime.

The Niners only tendered him a 2nd rounder...

What do you think of this scenario???...we go after a CB at #26 and offer Brooks a multi-year contract that the Niners would have to match, if not, we get Brooks and give up the 2nd rounder.

Is the combo of Kyle Wilson (or Devin McCourty or Kareem Jackson) and Ahmad Brooks better than let's say Jerry Hughes and Brandon Ghee?

Tough call, isn't it?

Brooks is a linebacker; always has been.

Brooks had 15 tackles, 6 sacks. 3 of them came against Jeremy Bridges.

Not a tough call at all

Ahmad Brooks is not worth a 2nd rounder.

The CB postion is slightly deep and could get a CB or any defensive player with great value in the 2nd.

If it's 2nd round CBs that your looking for I would rate them as so

1. Wake Forest Brandon Ghee
2. Bama Kareem Jackson
3. South FL Jerome Murphy
4. Indiana (PA) Akwasi Owusu-Ansah

I'd take a combo of (1) Weatherspoon (2) Cody though...With a 3rd round CB A.J Jefferson from Freseno State though.

Porter'd be allright until Davis and Brown, maybe Baggs get up to speed. Wouldn't cost us a possible future starter either.

I'd give it serious thought.

I too would give this serious thought. Brooks is still a gamble, but he is a physical freak and if he's able to keep his head on straight, he can be a dominate LB in the NFL.
Also, as for givng up a 2nd rounder, I think a very strategic trade for Q would bring back a few picks that would more than compensate us for coughing up our 2nd rounder to get Brooks...

I think your over valueing Anquan this off season. I think he only wants to be in Miami. I think most teams know he's not going to sign long term with them unless they pony up a heck of a lot of mulah, to get him to change his mind about playing for them.

On top of that giving up a 2nd and more to get him. I don't see that happening. The Cards are going to wind up with Miami's 3rd and we're going to have to take that in a very deep draft.

Mitch,-----right now I just don't see the NEED at DE like I do at trying to shore up the middle of our defense. It looks like Robinson wants to retire, and Branch is now a DE rather than a DT. That leaves Watson alone at the Nose, and he is still coming off kneecap replacement. Now I have to believe that the staff feels that Watson returns strong this year, but he is still without back-up. You can't just push Branch into the nose because he is built like a NT. He was tried there and just didn't work out at that position like he has worked out at DE.

With Dansby being gone, and Hayes having chronic back problems, we are WOEFULLY thin up the middle Even if we bring in Larry Foote to take Dansby's slot, we would need to use our 1st draft pick on Weatherspoon to back up Foote. (I just don't see a quality ILB to do that job if we pass on Spoon). I believe that Mark Washington can back-up Hayes this year, and a bonus of taking Spoon with our 1st pick, is that he could also provide spot use at Rush Linebacker.

That would still leave us having to use our 2nd, or for sure our 3rd pick to get a NT to back up Watson. (We might be able to find a decent one in the 4th round, but I doubt it.)

That still leaves us without a replacement for Rolle, who almost surely is gone also, so FS is a NEED pick. Even then we have to choose whether or not to use the next pick to strengthen our CB corps, or our Rush Linebacker corps.

To me, that uses up five of our seven picks already, and all we have been able to address is defensive NEED. We still need to address a trainee QB, and possibly an OL pick. I just don't see us being in the position to give up ANY picks this year to do any sort of dreambuilding.

Where did you read or hear that Robinson wants to retire?

I don't recall Watson needing his knee replaced, thought it was just a broken knee cap two years ago which shouldn't have been an issue this past year.

I agree that the middle of this defense needs a ton of attention. I also believe that any position of the D could be upgraded or depth added with the exception of 3-4 DE's. Maybe Iwebema could be upgraded but not a screaming need like the rest of the D.

I don't think we need 4-3 DE's just better quality 3-4 OLB's. Chike and Btrain leaving is the good start to this process. Both were quality players at some point in their careers with the Cards but that time has passed.

He didn't hear that and Watson didn't have his kneecapped replaced, the poster you are referencing here is well know for typing jibberish. Also, Mark Washington is an OLB.

What is your obsession with RFAs? Mediocre, expensive veterans instead of young, cheap players with a lot more upside...not a tough call.

Brooks was languishing on waivers and had one foot in the CFL a year ago, and now you want to surrender a 2nd rounder for him? This makes almost as much sense as the Jason Campbell plan.

I would really really really hate to see Brooks go....even for a second rounder.
IMO Brooks has finally has matured into a football player.
Tomorrow should be interesting.....:D
