Whats up! Been away lost the forum been posting stuff at cardinalinsider and CaliforniaCard47 reminded me where this was... TY

This was my first post here in the forums last year...........
I ended up being pretty damn close.... pat on the back.

Im bringin something over I still have on my mind.... Insider that is still on my mind.
Besides WR I have want everyone to look at what the Cardinals passed up.

This is how it works you will see who the Cards drafted below and following that the next 3 picks. I only put the ones worthwild.
What would the Cards been like in the 90s if our front office when deciding who to pick made the rt choice instead of the wrong.
We already know the impact of the ones they did draft and the record win/loss pct over the years.

1988 rd. 1 Ken Harvey - great choice
rd.2 - Tony jeffries (the next 2 picks were Thurman Thomas HOF-Buff and Ken Norton-SF)

1989- Eric Hill - not bad but next 3 picks were (Donell woolford, trace Armstrong, and eric Metcalf)

1990- we gave it up for Randall Hill - Mia but Dallas got Emmitt Smith HOF with the 17th.

1991-rd2.- Mike JOnes DE the next pick was Brett Favre HOF
rd.7 - Ivory lee brown - 2 picks later LEon Lett

1992 - we didnt have a pick and I believe Miami used it to take Troy Vincent HOF
Rd 3 - we took ed Cunningham - c the next pick was Brett Favre alltime favorite target Robert Brooks wr

1993 - rd 1 Garrison Hearst - who cares we never gave him a chance bad evaluation (Marvin Jones - LB jets)
two rd 1. Ernest Dye - Nice guy he gave me prize for long distance driving contest on cardinal charity. but we couldve had ( robert smith - min rb)
rd 6. brett wallerstedt - the next two picks were
(chidi ahanotu De- TB and richie andersen - rb now with dallas)

1994 - Jamir Miller (couldve had 3 picks later one of my fav dl of the 90s Joe Johnson - DE Saints)
rd2. chuck levy - (couldve had Charlie Garner rb local product)
rd 3. - rich brahm ( couldve had WInfred Tubbs Lb- saints)

1995 - gave up our first rd. pick which couldve got us Hugh Douglas instead put a lot of emphasis on rest of draft
rd.2 Frank Sanders - not bad but the next two were
Ken Dilger TE - Ind and Bobby Taylor CB- Phil were far better)
and note Terrel Davis was taken in the sixth round.

1996 - Simeon Rice - again another player that did nothing here next pick was Jonathon OGden
rd. 2 Leeland mcelroy rb - next picks were (MIke Alstott rb- tb and Amani Toomer- wr NYG)
Rd 5 we had 2 picks back to back we took crap guys that didnt even make the team 3 picks later was (DE- Laroi Glover- NO)

1997 - rd 1 we took Tommy Knight a few picks later (Warrick Dunn rb -atl and Tony Gonzalez te - kc)
rd2. Jake Plummer - which Iam glad they took him but this is about evaluation and the next 2 were (Corey Dillon rb - cinn and Sam Madison cb and then Freddie Jones TE- Sd)
rd 3 Ty Howard - two more picks later (BERT BERRY DE- now with Az)
rd 4 we chose a guard - instead of (Marcus Robinson wr - chi)

1998 rd1.
The Highest rated man on the draft board was Randy MOSS but we past on him to take
Andre Wadsworth - next ones were Charles Woodson pro bowl CB - oak and Grant Wistrom DE - Stl)
rd 2. Corey Chavous - a couple years later he was evaluated too slow we cut him lose and the next year with minnesota a pro Bowler. (one of next 3 picks were Tony Parrish S - Chi maybe best safety in last 5 years)
we got another pick in
2nd round - Anthony CLement ot - check this next ones
(FLozell Adams OT - Dallas and Sam Cowart LB - Buff)

1999 David Boston wr - I thought great but ooh well we all know what he became instead they couldve had
(Chris McAlister cb - Balt or Daunte Culpepper Qb - Min)
we had 2 first rounders
rd 1 LJ Shelton OL - not bad but we couldve had Antoine Winfield cb - Buff)
rd2 Johnny Rutledge - ? who or we couldve had (Buffalo Peerlis Price wr)
rd3 Tony burke - ? who ..couldve had (Dat nyguyen lb- Dallas, or Mike McKenzie Cb- GB)

2000 - THomas Jones rb - the next rb taken was Shaun Alexander of Seattle but the next 2 picks were Brian Urlacher LB- Chicago and Plaxico Burress Wr- Pitt)
rd4 David Barrett - maybe we shouldve taken Brandon Short LB - NYG)

The Jury is still out on 2001 on but here it is
rd5
133 Arizona Fatafehi, Mario DT Kansas State
134 Cleveland Pharms, Jeremiah LB Washington
135 Cincinnati Leyva, Victor G Arizona State

2002 you decide: rd 1
12 Arizona Bryant, Wendell DT Wisconsin
13 New Orleans Stallworth, Donte' WR Tennessee
14 N.Y. Giants Shockey, Jeremy TE Miami
15 Tennessee Haynesworth, Albert DT Tennessee

rd 2 OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

50 Houston Pitts, Chester T San Diego State
51 Denver Portis, Clinton RB Miami
Rd 3
81 Arizona McCown, Josh QB Sam Houston State
82 New Orleans Allen, James OLB Oregon State
83 Houston Hill, Charles NT Maryland
84 St. Louis Gordon, Lamar RB North Dakota State
Rd 4
113 Arizona Dwyer, Nate DT Kansas
114 Miami McMichael, Randy TE Georgia

2003 ( THis I think every Cardinal fan knows was the worst trade in our history of stupid ones)
Draft rd 1 we had 2 picks because we traded away
the top of the round where we couldve had
7 Jacksonville Byron Leftwich QB Marshall
8 Carolina Jordan Gross T Utah
9 Minnesota Kevin Williams DE Oklahoma State
10 Baltimore Terrell Suggs OLB Arizona State

but we took
17 Arizona Bryant Johnson WR Penn State
18 Arizona Calvin Pace DE Wake Forest
19 Baltimore Kyle Boller QB California
20 Denver George Foster T Georgia
21 Cleveland Jeff Faine C Notre Dame
22 Chicago Rex Grossman QB Florida
23 Buffalo Willis McGahee RB Miami
TOO early to evaluate the rest but notables are

65 Cincinnati Kelley Washington WR Tennessee *star in the making
101 Houston Domanick Davis RB Louisiana State

Portis, Clinton Thurman Thomas Troy Vincent HOF Emmitt Smith Brett Favre Charles Woodson Randy MOSS Tony Parrish Charlie Garner Joe Johnson Laroi Glover Charles Woodson Daunte Culpepper Antoine Winfield Shaun Alexander Brian Urlacher

Is this the biggest alltime hind sight post, dude not to be mean but you couldprobably do this with every team.

You did not mention 2001 the worst draft I feel the Cards had, we took a RG now converted LG with the 2ndoverall pick. then with the KVB pick they passed on Crumpler, Jenkins and many other right after KVb I'll look it upI'm tired tonight.

Exactly this is all hindsight! there is no point to posting this unless you were saying it at the time and had these guys pegged yourself.

19 teams passed on Moss CIN did twice.

Every team in the NFL passed on Joe Montana at least 3 times some 4 times.

Now if you call it when it happens right at draft time that is legit!

I know its hind sight and draft jargain is only good this time of year before the draft.
We all get graded out on a day to day basis in whatever we do.
We reflect on mistakes from the past and also stepping stones that bridged gaps.

I think Boldin was a FIND last year

This year I think Micheal Clayton-WR will be from LSU - Your not going to read anything youll like that much when comparing him to these WR on the board. But he makes plays and played in a very tough conference for LSU.

Defense I like Gamble-CB from Ohio State. He is Antoine winfield but bigger.

Calling it at draft almost everyone in PADRE MURPHYS yelled hell no when we drafted Thomas Jones over Shaun ALexander.

LAST YEAR SCreamed when we traded away our pick only to draft someone that wasnt even on somes draft board or on others much further down.

Oh yeah I was counting on the Cards missing on Suggs. Then we passed on him too ARGH!

The good news is DG had Suggs pegged at #6. He knows the score I don't know who he will take but it'll be better then what went down last year. The dude has a great drafting record.

In the '96 draft I believe the next pick after McElroy was Tony Brakens.

So the Cards could have had Ogden and taken their DE in round 2.

And of course Ogden would be playing for Tampa Bay and Brakens would have had the same knee surgery as Swann and Wadsworth and have been out of football by the 1999 season.

:D
