Norway won the Winter Games gold medal count for the fourth consecutive Olympics, racking up 18 gold medals (and an Olympic-best 41 overall) behind cross country skier Johannes Høsflot Klæbo.

Klæbo, who has broken the Winter Olympics record for gold medals with 11, won six this year.

Klæbo joined Michael Phelps (23) as the only Olympians, Summer or Winter, to reach double-digit gold medals.

The United States finished second in the gold medal count with 12 golds and 33 in the overall count.

Norway had 16 gold medals at the 2022 Beijing games and tied for the lead at the Pyeongchang Games with Germany at 14. It also finished one gold medal ahead of Russia in 2014 at Sochi after the latter became embroiled in a doping scandal.
