OXFORD — Ole Miss softball has defied expectations to earn a No. 2 seed in an NCAA tournament regional.
The Rebels (37-17, 11-13 SEC) were picked to finish second-to-last in the SEC Preseason Coaches' Poll. Coach Jamie Trachsel has led the Rebels to an NCAA tournament appearance in each of her five seasons.
Ole Miss is a No. 2 seed in Arizona's regional. The Wildcats are the NO. 13 overall seed. No. 3 Grand Canyon and No. 4 Santa Clara round out the regional. Ole Miss will face Grand Canyon (46-6) to begin regional play on May 16 (9 p.m., ESPNU).
Just one of the four teams will advance to the super regional. It is a double-elimination tournament. The elimination game will be the final game on Saturday. The championship game will be played Sunday. The team that comes out of the loser's bracket will need to win twice.
Ole Miss last made a Super Regional in 2019, when the Rebels hosted No. 6 Arizona. Ole Miss does not have a Women's College World Series appearance.
