OXFORD – As far as opening weekends go, Ole Miss couldn’t have hoped for much more at Swayze Field.

Missouri sophomore transfer Wil Libbert made his first start with the Rebels and pitched five strong innings, surrendering two earned runs with seven strikeouts against Nevada as Ole Miss finished off its three-game sweep of the Wolf Pack with a 13-2 win in seven innings on Sunday.

The Rebels (3-0) outscored Nevada (0-3) 29-6 over three games. Ole Miss batters had 31 hits and drew 22 walks – including 13 on Sunday – while Rebels pitchers struck out 35 batters while walking just six batters.

“(Libbert’s) just pitched so well since being on campus. Had a really good fall, but he’s been lights out in January,” head coach Mike Bianco said. “ … He was terrific and deserved that, and a guy that’s got SEC experience and a guy that we’re hopeful he’s going to have one of those great years for you.”

Clemson senior transfer outfielder Tristan Bissetta drove in seven runs in the series and led the team with four hits. Senior first baseman Will Furniss, junior shortstop Brayden Randle and junior Murray State transfer second baseman Dom Decker each had three hits over the weekend.

“Each guy knew their individual role, which you don’t get a lot usually early on in the season. That was … kind of refreshing,” senior third baseman Judd Utermark said. “ … I think overall, throughout the lineup, I think it’s really dangerous and I’m excited to see what it is in the future.”

Senior Illinois State transfer outfielder Daniel Pacella’s towering two-run home run to right field highlighted the five runs Ole Miss scored in the first inning, all coming before the first out was recorded. Nevada’s Sean Yamaguchi led off the second with a home run to left into the visiting bullpen. The Rebels responded with two runs in the bottom of the third on a bases-loaded walk and wild pitch. The teams scored a run apiece in the fourth.

Utermark doubled in a run, stole third and scored on an error in the fifth, which sparked the start of a five-run inning. Junior catcher Austin Fawley doubled in a run, and senior designated hitter Collin Reuter had a two-run single in the inning, putting the game into run-rule territory. Junior Patrick Collopy and senior Landon Waters each pitched a scoreless inning in relief.

“Not much more you can really ask for from the staff. I mean, Hunter (Elliott) and Cade (Townsend) especially did really well, and then the bullpen," Libbert said. " … That’s all you can ask for out of the guys.”

Ole Miss hosts Arkansas State on Tuesday at 4 p.m. The game will be broadcast on SEC Network+. Junior Saint Louis transfer Owen Kelly will start on the mound, according to Bianco.
