Judd Utermark smacked two home runs en route to a 7-1 win for Ole Miss over the Memphis Tigers on Tuesday at Swayze Field.

The Rebels (11-2) needed a bounce back game coming off a disappointing 1-2 weekend at the Bruce Bolt College Classic, and it delivered in every phase over Memphis (3-9).

Utermark’s two home runs were number seven and eight on the season with the slugger sitting fourth nationally in round trippers. Topher Jones also added his first home run as a Rebel in the bottom of the third. Utermark is currently chasing history as he now ranks eighth all time in career home runs at Ole Miss tied with Stephen Head and Burney Hutchinson. He is one home run away from tying Kevin Graham at seventh all time. The record is held by Kyle Gordon with 48 and the legendary Tim Elko is second with 46.

Memphis’ only run came in the top of the first, and Ole Miss’ pitching shut them down from there with starter Owen Kelly going 4 IP with five K’s, Grayson Gibson giving four shutout innings with five K’s and Landon Waters closing out the ninth inning. Gibson was credited with the win his first of his career at Ole Miss.

Ole Miss faces North Alabama tonight at 6:30 p.m. CT at Swayze Field before a weekend series with Evansville in Oxford.
