The Oklahoma baseball team won the first of a potential two games Sunday, staying alive in the NCAA Tournament by beating The Citadel, 15-5.
The victory, a rematch from Saturday, sets up another Saturday rematch for the Sooners. They'll play Georgia Tech at 5 p.m. CT from Atlanta. The Yellow Jackets beat Oklahoma yesterday, 9-3, sending OU to the elimination bracket. To advance to the Super Regional, Oklahoma needs to beat Tech twice - once Sunday and again Monday. A Georgia Tech win in either game would allow it to advance.
A five-run third inning and a seven-run fourth inning opened things up for OU. The five runs came on a bases-loaded walk followed by back-to-back two-run singles from Brendan Brock and Dasan Harris. In the fourth, Oklahoma scored on six straight plate appearances.
Jason Walk and Camden Johnson each scored three runs as Walk hit the team's only home run. Burke, Harris and Trey Gambill each had three RBIs. Brock collected three of Oklahoma's 14 hits, while Harris, Johnson, Kyle Branch and Deitan Lachance picked up two hits apiece.
Those runs allowed coach Skip Johnson to stick with starter Nick Wesloski and not have to dig too deep into his bullpen, important with two potential games remaining. Wesloski gave up all five runs, but just two were earned, on six hits over seven innings while striking out four.
Oklahoma ace Camden Johnson will get the call later Sunday. He hasn't pitched since the season-finale weekend against Tennessee.
