Facing a financial crunch, the Oklahoma City Thunder have said goodbye to a couple of longtime faces. The latest was Isaiah Joe. He was sent to the Detroit Pistons for two future second-round picks. The deal is all about cost-cutting as they're trying to shave salary off to get under the second apron.
Such is life in the NBA. The Thunder are going through the same problems every contender will eventually face. To duck financial punishments, they had to send away one of their best role players who helped them win the 2025 NBA championship.
Joe averaged 11.1 points on 45.5% shooting and 2.5 rebounds. He shot 42.3% from 3 on six attempts. In his four seasons in OKC, he salvaged his NBA career as one of the best 3-point shooting role players. Now, he hopes to take advantage of Cade Cunningham's gravity as he did with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
The Thunder are going through roster changes for the first time in a couple of summers. And even though the deal makes sense if your goal is to bring down your hefty payroll, it still stings as Joe is one of OKC's best developmental stories. Here's how a couple of his teammates reacted to the deal:
