The Edmonton Oilers appear to have found their starting goalie; or at the very least, a 1B.

On the heels of winning a Stanley Cup and after freeing up cap space with the Darnell Nurse trade, the Oilers signed Frederik Andersen to a one-year deal worth $2.8 million.

As per a statement by the team:

“Andersen (6’4”, 229 lbs, 36) is a veteran of 552 career games over his 13-year NHL career split between the Anaheim Ducks, Toronto Maple Leafs and Carolina Hurricanes compiling a record of 324-149-58 to go along with a 2.59 goals-against average, .913 save percentage and 28 shutouts.”

This past postseason, he posted a 13-2 record with a 1.89 goals-against average, .913 save percentage and three shutouts helping the Hurricanes capture the Stanley Cup. Andersen was the starter until the Final, where he was replaced by Brandon Bussi in the wake of news that Andersen’s agent Claude Lemieux had passed away.

Over his career, he has appeared in 101 postseason games going 59-37 with a 2.32 goals-against average, .913 save percentage and eight shutouts.

The Oilers made several moves on Wednesday, trading for Devon Levi, and signing Ryan Shea.
