While most hockey fans believe that 28-year-old center and three-time MVP Connor McDavid is the face of the Edmonton Oilers, there’s no question that forward Leon Draisaitl at least deserves to be an honorable mention.
McDavid and Draisaitl form one of, if not the most lethal 1-2 scoring punches in the NHL, and both are always among the league leaders in most offensive categories.
And while McDavid had a pretty strong season in his own right (26 goals, 100 points) this year, Draisaitl was in a league of his own with his offensive production.
The 29-year-old forward secured his first Maurice "Rocket" Richard Trophy as the NHL’s leading goal scorer (52), and he ranked second to Tampa Bay Lightning forward Jake Guentzel in power-play goals (16) and third behind Lightning forward Nikita Kucherov (121) and Colorado Avalanche forward Nathan MacKinnon (116) in points (106).

Draisaitl’s offensive explosion earned him a spot as one of three finalists along with Kucherov and Winnipeg Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck for the Hart Memorial Trophy, which is given annually to the top player in the NHL.
Once the news was announced, the Oilers celebrated Draisaitl’s accomplishment with a congratulatory post on social media.

#Oilers forward Leon Draisaitl has been selected as a finalist for the Hart Memorial Trophy! ” the Oilers posted on X.
Fans flocked to the comment section to also voice their support for Draisaitl’s MVP push.
“THATS MY MVP,” one fan exclaimed.
“A finalist? Don’t you mean ‘the winner?’” another fan asked.
“IMO the hardest thing to do in hockey is to score goals! The @EdmontonOilers Leon Draisaitl was the NHL’s only 50-goal scorer (52) and led the League with 11 GWG. Posted a +32 on a team with a pedestrian +23 goal differential,” a third fan reasoned.
“As a Canucks fan.. he deserves to win it,” one user declared.
Draisaitl has won the Hart Trophy once in his career back in 2020.
That year, he logged 43 goals and 110 points in 71 games during the NHL’s COVID-shortened season. Had he played a full 82-game season, Draisaitl was on pace for 49.6 goals and 134 points.
