When Shohei Ohtani takes the mound for the Los Angeles Dodgers, all eyes turn to him on every single pitch. On Wednesday night against the Minnesota Twins, Ohtani did not disappoint one bit.

The Japanese two-way superstar went six innings and added a 2-for-5 night at the plate as the Dodgers downed the Twins 4-3 at Target Field. Ohtani remains on the winning side with a pitching record of 8-2.

Ohtani Quite Effective on the Mound

Ohtani allowed five hits, two earned runs, walked two, and struck out eight. He's now carrying around an incredible 1.58 ERA. Besides going 2-for-5, Ohtani also scored a run and had an RBI against Minnesota, too.

Twins starter Joe Ryan took the loss, falling to 5-4 this season. Ryan worked six innings, gave up eight hits, four earned runs, walked one, struck out nine, and surrendered a home run, too.

The game's offense was confined to the first three innings. So, if you tuned in late, then there were no runs scored at all after the third inning.

Los Angeles jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the second. Shortstop Mookie Betts hit his 300th career home run, a solo blast, and his ninth dinger this season. In the bottom of the third, though, the Twins came back with three runs of their own. The big hit here was Ryan Kriedler's two-run single, putting Minnesota up 3-1 at that point.

Dodgers Put on Rally Caps

The Dodgers, though, said "not so fast" and popped up three runs of their own in the top of the third inning. Alex Freeland hit his seventh double this season. Ohtani followed through with an RBI single, scoring Freeland and tightening up the Twins' lead to 3-2.

Andy Pages was called out on strikes, then Freddie Freeman walked. With runners on first and second base, Betts hit a sharp single to left and that loaded the bases. Max Muncy came through with a sharp single to right field. Ohtani scored and that tied things up at 3-3.

Alex Call followed with an RBI sacrifice fly as Freeman scored and Los Angeles took a 4-3 lead.

That ended all the offense on Wednesday night. But it proved to be just enough as Tanner Scott came on in the ninth inning and picked up his 11th save this season. Kyle Hurt and Alex Vesia picked up holds out of the Dodgers' bullpen.

Dodgers Get Ready for Padres Series

Los Angeles was 4-for-11 with runners in scoring position and left seven total runners on base. As for Minnesota, they were 2-for-5 with runners in scoring position and left eight total runners on base.

The Dodgers are now 52-29 this season and still in first place in the National League West Division. The Twins fall to 38-44 and sit in third place in the American League Central Division.

Los Angeles takes Thursday off before heading to play a three-game weekend series against the San Diego Padres at Petco Park in San Diego.
