Kalani Sitake might have turned down the Penn State job, but the Nittany Lions are still in the Utah business thanks to defensive tackles coach Ikaika Malloe who made Aniti “Andy” Paiva a priority from the start. Malloe offered Paiva in late January when he was on the recruiting trail, and Paiva made his way to Happy Valley for a visit in April.

From there, Penn State became the team to beat for Paiva and they were able to get this one across the finish line before official visit season begins in full a few weeks from now.

At 6-foot-3, 300 pounds, Paiva is your classic 1-Tech/nose guard run-stuffer that will eventually played at 320+ pounds. As Greg Biggins of Rivals said after seeing him at an Under Armour camp in April, “He’s a true space eater and built like a house. You can’t move him and he was able to rock a center/guard backward with a single punch and once his momentum is going forward, there’s not much you can do to stop him.”

The Nittany Lions now have two defensive tackles in the class, as Paiva joins fellow 6-foot-3, 300-pound Stanley Montgomery as the interior defenders in the class so far. The numbers should allow for one more, with all attention turning to New York four-star Zahmar Tookes. Tookes has official visits planned to Florida (May 28), Penn State (June 5), Nebraska (June 12), and Georgia (June 19) so we’ll see if those visits are made or if one of those schools gets Tookes to commit while on campus.
