Official | Rennes tie centre-back prospect Jérémy Jacquet to long-term contract

Stade Rennais have officially confirmed the contract extension of promising centre-back Jérémy Jacquet (19). The young defender has been the subject of interest from European clubs including RB Leipzig near the tail-end of the Ligue 1 season. It was previously expected that Jacquet would put pen to paper over a one-year contract extension. However, the France U21 international has signed a long-term contract with his formative club. Jacquet is now tied with Rennes until 2029.

Jacquet has seamlessly adapted to Habib Beye’s defensive set-up after being recalled from a loan at Ligue 2 side Clermont where he spent the first half of the season. Even if it meant that Rennes had to spend €900k on a player that was already on their books – the teenager returned to his parent club and starred during the Breton club’s resurgence during the second half of the Ligue 1 campaign.

Jacquet’s contract renewal was one of the first tasks of Rennes’ newly-named Sporting Director Loïc Désiré, who took over from Frederic Massara. “The season flew by. I think I played some good games, but the aim now is to get back to work and achieve better results next season“, Jacquet said.
