Seven years after he was traded by the Giants to the Cleveland Browns, Odell Beckham Jr. stood in front of members of the media wearing Giants gear in what he called a “surreal” experience.

“It felt great just being back out there, being back in the building, on this field, looking at this stadium, it’s a pretty surreal feeling,” said Beckham. “I know I’ve got a lot of work to do. … I came here to earn it. Just work hard every day and be the best I can for the team.”

Now 33 years old, Beckham is back with the Giants after signing earlier this week. A veteran of 10 seasons, Beckham looked back on his first tenure with the Giants, saying wanting to win was what drove everything he did.

“I used to be in here looking at these banners, and all I ever wanted to do here was win. …. I never wanted to leave here,” Beckham said. “I came from a school where when we lost on Saturday, our season was over. I hate losing. I hate it, I hate it. All I ever wanted to do was win, and that’s all I want to do now.

“I’m just trying to be whatever I can for this team and be the best version of myself.”

Of course, nothing is guaranteed when it comes to Beckham making the team. But as long as he is with the team, Beckham believes he can be a mentor for someone like Malik Nabers, who, like he once was, was a rising star in the Big Apple.

“I think I can be a great asset for him,” he said. "Even when I wasn’t here, I was hitting him up.… We come from the same [school]. We want to win that bad. Now there’s a way to do everything, and everybody learns from their own ways and mistakes… and I’m gonna be there to pick him up and give him some advice for the next time that he can carry.

“I think when you go through an injury like that, for a minute it hardens you, but then it also gives you a lot of experience and knowledge and you get to learn a lot about yourself. Through this process, which has been a tough process, I think he’s going to come out the other end better, and I can’t wait to see him back on the field. Obviously, we know what kind of player he is, so however I can help him and anybody else — trust me I know all the things to do and I know the things not to do.”

Beckham most recently played nine games with Miami in 2024. He ended up not signing with a team in 2025, saying that stepping away from football was difficult but allowed him to spend time with his family.

Now he’s getting re-adjusted to the speed of the game as he takes the field during OTAs, and he’s also getting to learn the intricacies of working with a new quarterback in Jaxson Dart.

“He’s very good,” Beckham said of Dart. “I watched him last year, and he likes to have fun. He enjoys the game of football and that’s something great to see from a young quarterback. He’s got an arm on him, obviously he’s got all the swag.”

One current member of the Giants whom Beckham has plenty of familiarity with is head coach John Harbaugh, as the two were together in Baltimore in 2023, when Beckham had 565 yards and three touchdowns.

Well before signing back with the Giants, Beckham said he “got a little call” from someone with the Giants during their coaching search this past offseason, and Beckham specifically pointed the team in Harbaugh’s direction.

“He leads in a very good way, and he just was one of my favorite coaches that I’ve ever had,” Beckham said. “So, I spoke very highly of him when they asked me about who should be here, and I believe they got just the right man for the job, someone who could actually change the culture or at least start it in the right direction.”
