The Knicks are back in the NBA Finals for the first time since 1999 after sweeping the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Finals.
New York sealed the series with a 130-93 Game 4 win, extending their playoff winning streak to 11 games and sending the city into celebration.
The result also gave NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani the chance to aim a short joke at Cleveland on X.

After the Knicks completed the 4-0 series win, Mamdani tagged NYC Sanitation’s account and wrote: “I’d like to report a sweep.”
The post turned a basketball result into a city-service joke during New York’s Finals celebrations.
It also fit Mamdani’s visible Knicks links during the postseason, after he attended Game 2 at Madison Square Garden from the upper sections.
As expected for a political figure, the reaction was mixed. Some fans laughed at the timing and praised his connection to the city’s sports culture.
Others said a mayor should be focused on wider city issues instead of using social media to celebrate or troll after a playoff series.
Despite the criticism, Mamdani’s post on X came as no surprise. As the city’s leading political figure, he was always expected to weigh in on such a major moment for New York sports culture, as they had not reached this stage for 27 years.
