New Minnesota Vikings general manager Nolan Teasley continues to make moves to shape the roster in his image.
We are a few days removed from mandatory minicamp where the Minnesota Vikings had their last practice until training camp. New general manager Nolan Teasley continues to shape the roster in his image, and he did so with more roster moves.
On Tuesday, the Vikings signed tight end Marshall Lang and defensive lineman Jahvaree Ritzie and waived offensive tackle Caleb Etienne and defensive lineman Monkell Goodwine.
Minnesota Vikings make four roster moves
It’s an interesting path that Teasley is going down right now. These are already the third and fourth former Seattle Seahawks that he’s brought to the Vikings. We knew that it would happen, but for it to happen so quickly is intriguing.
Lang was a UDFA out of Northwestern and was with the Seahawks and Patriots last season. Playing for the Wildcats didn’t get him a lot of opportunities to catch the ball, as he finished his career with less than 50 recrptions and just four touchdowns.
Ritzie played at North Carolina where he had 6.5 sacks in 2024 for the Tar Heels. He was signed initially by the Patriots, but joined the Steelers on a futures contract after the season.
Etienne was viewed as a long shot to make the roster wiht his massive frame, and Goodwine didn’t have a great chance to make it, but there was a path forward for him, especially after the Vikings made a significant investment in him with $247,500 in guaranteed base salary and $10,000 in signing bonus. That guaranteed salary is a single season practice squad salary for a rookie. That investment meant the Vikings expected him to make the practice squad at a minimum.
What is evident is that Teasley didn’t agree with the scouting staff’s assessment on Goodwine, and it stinks to eat that dead money, but it’s not a big deal.
