Jun. 4—SIOUX FALLS — Sanborn Central/Woonsocket senior Liz Boschee led a rewriting of South Dakota's all-time high school girls javelin record books in 2026.
With a career-best of 130 feet, 6 inches, through her junior campaign, Boschee already ranked No. 5 on the leaderboard entering this season. At her first meet of 2026, Boschee broke the previous state record of 138-6 held by Rapid City Stevens' Brynn Nelson from 2024, reaching 140 feet, 9 inches. Javelin has only been a scored event in South Dakota high school track and field since 2022.
After briefly losing control of the top mark late in the season, she reclaimed the honor at the Class B track and field championship meet, extending her top throw to 147 feet, 7 inches, which also stands as a top-20 throw nationally this spring.
Harrisburg senior Autumn Bryant held the record at 141-9 for eight days before Boschee reclaimed the No. 1 spot and is the new No. 2 on the charts.
In all, seven athletes had season-best throws that eclipsed the No. 6 all-time mark entering 2026, making for a nearly complete reshuffling of the top-10 record book. New marks include Sioux Falls Lincoln senior Hayden Kok (No. 5, 134-10), Gregory sophomore Dani VanDerWerff (No. 8, 132-4), Dell Rapids St. Mary sophomore Maddyn LeBrun (No. 9, 129-11) and Sioux Falls Washington senior Finley Langenfeld (No. 10, 129-9). Narrowly missing out on the top 10 was Huron sophomore Maggie Storm at 129-8.
Here are all the new South Dakota all-time record holders from 2026.
* Sioux Falls Christian senior Halle Braun shattered the 300-meter hurdles record by more than three-tenths of a second, establishing the new time to beat at 42.32 seconds. Braun had previously ranked No. 8 all-time with a time of 43.94 seconds from 2025. The previous state record had stood since 1993, a time of 42.66 seconds run by Rapid City Central's Anne Vollmer. Braun also entered the 200-meter dash leaderboard with the No. 3 time of 24.23 seconds.
* The Rapid City Stevens quartet of Maya Khachikian, Riley Willet, Ava Holzwarth and Ella Bradeen already held the all-time state record in the 4x100-meter relay at 47.68 seconds from 2025, but they kept setting the standard this year. Three times this spring, they lowered their record time, the last of which came on May 19, when they ran 47.09 seconds.
* Gabrielle Ranek, Adelyn Bouman, Daniela Rodriguez and Peyton VanDeest, of Spearfish, claimed the state's top time ever in the 1,600-meter sprint medley relay with a time of 4:01.13, slipping just under the previous record time of 4:01.18 set by O'Gorman a year ago.
* Aberdeen Central senior Kyson Fayant laid claim to the 300-meter hurdles record, running a time of 37.77 seconds to enter the leaderboard for the first time. The previous record of 37.89 seconds was shared by Mitchell's Jason Greenway from 2011 and Sioux Falls Lincoln's Tom Taylor from 1988.
* Sioux Falls Lincoln senior Lucas Honner climbed the final rung on the javelin ladder, going from No. 2 at 188 feet, 5 inches, to No. 1 at 199 feet. Lincoln's Jack Smith held the previous record with a throw of 196-3 from 2024.
* Lincoln's quartet of Zyan Conrad, Isaac Herrboldt, Evan Abild and Javon Haukaas took down not one but two state relay records. They lowered the 4x200-meter relay time by nearly a half-second to 1:26.10. Haukaas and Abild were also members of the former record-holding team that ran 1:26.53 in 2025. In the 4x400, the foursome smashed the old mark by 3.4 seconds, coming in at 3:14.69. Their time was nearly nine full seconds better than any other South Dakota quartet this season, and Brandon Valley had held the record at 3:18.09 since 2022. For good measure, Lincoln's star relay squad turned in the No. 3 time in the 4x100-meter relay.
Here are all the new South Dakota all-time top-10 marks from 2026.
* Spearfish junior Peyton VanDeest climbed from No. 9 to No. 2 on the 800-meter run charts, lowering her personal-best time from 2:11.86 to 2:08.21. Watertown's Kay Stormo holds the No. 1 all-time mark at 2:07.90, set in 1978. At 1,600 meters, VanDeest also lowered her time from 4:50.88 in 2025 to 4:49.82 this spring, though that didn't change her No. 6 ranking all-time. Besides VanDeest, four other girls runners — Sioux Falls Christian senior Ellie Maddox, Northwestern senior Boekelheide, Rapid City Stevens seventh-grader Evelyn Hurley and Harrisburg eighth-grader Brianna Reilly — came in below the former No. 10 time at 800 meters of 2:12.07, which was established in 2025. There was only space for one on the top-10 list, and Brianna Reilly got the nod with a time of 2:11.77.
* At 3,200 meters, Sioux Falls Christian senior Ellie Maddox posted the No. 2 time at 10:11.48, down from her best of 10:29.85 last year, which was previously No. 8 on the charts. O'Gorman's Alea Hardie owns the top all-time mark of 10:10.83, established in 2022.
* Aberdeen Central senior Taryn Hermansen surged up the shot put leaderboard to No. 2 this season with a top mark of 48 feet, 11 inches. She was previously No. 7 with a mark of 46-8. Hamlin's Gracelyn Leiseth set the all-time mark at 52-6.75 in 2022.
* Custer freshman Tenlee Stiefel cleared 13 feet, 3 inches, good for the new No. 2 mark in the pole vault. Stiefel was previously tied for No. 6 at 12-6. The state record is held by Watertown's Leslie Brost, who cleared 13-5.25 in 2008. Elsewhere in the top 10, Spearfish junior Reese Nida reached 12-7, joining a four-way tie at No. 4.
* Rapid City Stevens junior Ava Holzwarth recorded a leap of 19 feet, 10.75 inches, in the long jump, inching up to No. 2 from 19-8 and No. 3. Sioux Falls Washington's Kari Heck is the only South Dakota girl to ever surpass 20 feet, setting the record at 20-3.5 in 2012. Holzwarth's senior teammate, Ella Bradeen, had a best mark of 19-6, which put her at No. 5.
* Lennox freshman Bergan Musser is now No. 9 in the long jump at 19-3, and she also entered the top 10 of the 100-meter dash charts at No. 5 by posting a time of 11.72 seconds.
* Pierre senior Charlee Williams-Smith ran 55.02 seconds in the 400-meter dash, the new No. 4 time in state history. She was previously No. 8 at 55.63 seconds.
* New to the top 10 at both 200 meters and 400 meters is Tea Area junior Sydney Stahlecker, who is now No. 9 in both with times of 24.44 seconds and 55.75 seconds, respectively.
* Rapid City Stevens junior Maya Khachikian established a new No. 4 time in the 100-meter hurdles at 14.20 seconds. Aberdeen Central junior Mya Arampatzis wasn't far behind with a time of 14.30 seconds, making her the newest member of a five-way tie for No. 8.
* Iroquois/Lake Preston senior Hadlee Holt entered the discus leaderboard with a season-best heave of 153-1, putting her at No. 5 all-time. Watertown's Malia Kranz tied the former No. 10 mark at 148-9, but Holt's new entry bumped that distance from the top 10.
* The top six 4x200-meter relay performances this season all came in under the former No. 10 time of 1:42.46, set in 2024. Though there wasn't room for all of them in the new top 10, four made the cut. Of the bunch, Pierre's quartet of Aubrey Fischer, Emlyn Swanson, Zoey Bauer and Charlee Williams-Smith posted the best time at 1:41.47, good for No. 5 on the list. Notably, Williams-Smith and Swanson ran on the Governors' squad that set the all-time record at 1:39.69 in 2025. Sioux Falls Lincoln (No. 6, 1:41.53), Rapid City Stevens (No. 8, 1:41.94) and Lennox (No. 9 tie, 1:42.06) are also now in the top 10.
* Brandon Valley senior Mikah Peters posted new top 10 marks in three different individual events this season, highlighted by the new No. 2 time in the 3,200-meter run at 8:48.66. He entered the year at No. 6 with a time of 9:01.81. The state record was set at 8:31.73 by Rapid City Stevens' Simeon Birnbaum. * Contesting Peters in the distance races, Sioux Falls Washington junior Cole Reilly joined the leaderboards at No. 6 over 1,600 meters (4:09.82) and No. 8 over 3,200 meters (9:04.58). Also at 3,200 meters, Sioux Falls Lincoln senior Miles Lechtenberg has the new No. 10 time of 9:07.28. Harrisburg senior Griffin Smith ran the No. 8 time at 800 meters, crossing in 1:52.63.
* Sioux Falls Lincoln senior Javon Haukaas blazed to a time of 10.45 seconds in the 100-meter dash, which is tied for No. 2 all-time. Brandon Valley's Landon Dulaney ran the record time of 10.43 seconds in 2025.
* Harrisburg junior Asher Hauert notched the No. 2 mark in the 110-meter hurdles at 14.05 seconds. The all-time record holder is Sturgis' Aidan Hedderman at 13.88 seconds. Also joining the ranks were Rapid City Stevens senior Jack Day (No. 3, 14.09) and Madison senior Shane Veenhof (No. 10, 14.17).

* Winner junior Jaxon Day made his way into the discus top 10 with a heave of 191 feet, 6 inches, which tied him for No. 6 in state history.
* Brandon Valley junior Uriah Dixon entered a three-way tie at No. 8 on the pole vault charts by getting over at 15 feet, 6 inches.
* Sioux Falls Lincoln junior Zachary Matos joined a six-way tie for No. 10 on the high jump leaderboard by clearing 6 feet, 10 inches.
* A pair of 4x800-meter relays put themselves in the top five all-time, led by the new No. 3 mark of 7:48.37 from Lincoln's Isaac Herrboldt, Miles Lechtenberg, Frank Vandy and Tyrus Needles. Sioux Falls Washington has the new No. 5 time of 7:50.72.
