Tennessee senior quarterback Joey Aguilar was granted a temporary restraining order against the NCAA for eligibility on Feb. 4.
He had a preliminary injunction hearing in Knox County Chancery Court on Friday after receiving a temporary restraining order. Chancellor Christopher D. Heagerty will make a ruling in the near future with Tennessee’s signal-caller.
In 2025, Aguilar completed 272-of-404 passing attempts for 3,565 yards, 24 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in 13 games during first season with the Vols. He also totaled 101 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns.
Aguilar transferred to Tennessee from UCLA after 2025 spring football practices. He never played in a game for the Bruins after transferring to UCLA from Appalachian State following the 2024 campaign.
He served as Appalachian State’s starting quarterback from 2023-24 after playing at Diablo Valley Community College (2021-22).
Tennessee will kick off its 2026 football season on Sept. 5 versus Furman at Neyland Stadium. 2026 will be the sixth season for the Vols under head coach Josh Heupel.
