There are no moral victories in the Stanley Cup playoffs, so the reality is the Ottawa Senators find themselves down 2-0 in the Battle of Ontario and face an enormous task getting back into this first-round series.
But, damn, if you're going to lose, go down swinging. Don't go quietly into the night. Don't play like you're happy just to be there.
Mission accomplished for the Senators.
They proved to themselves and the hockey world that the moment is not too big for them. They were outscored badly through the first four periods of the series but showed an enormous amount of resilience and character in coming back to force overtime before losing Game 2 to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
They have something to build on as they try to hold serve in Games 3 and 4. But even if they don't, these players and this franchise will be better for the experience, even if it doesn't feel that way right now.
