“Akhalkalakets” still doesn’t have a fight.
Yesterday (Sun., May 31, 2026), No. 2-ranked UFC Lightweight and almost-title challengerArman Tsarukyan released a YouTube video about his time in New York. About two minutes in, he revealed that his next fight will be a title fight … a BMF title fight.
“My next fight is the title fight, which is probably in September in L.A. But I’m a backup for the White House, too, if someone pulls out or gets hurt,” Tsarukyan said. “I may fight him again [Tsarukyan points at Charles Oliveira].”
The pair of Lightweights first faced off at UFC 300, with Tsarukyan winning a unanimous decision — which ultimately earned him a UFC Lightweight title fight with Islam Makhachev.
And, as expected, the internet and news aggregators went wild with the news that Tsarukyan is finally returning.
But he’s not.
In fact, he doesn’t have any idea when he’s competing inside the Octagon.
“Today on my YouTube, I said I might fight in September, and people immediately started posting that I’m officially fighting Oliveira,” Tsarukyan told Ariel Helwani a few hours after the news went wild. “No [I’m not fighting him]. Nothing is official. I didn’t say 100 percent I’m fighting; I said I might fight him. It could happen. My next fight could be in September, October or December; you never know. Maybe next year. Who knows what UFC wants to do or who I’ll be fighting next?”
“I’m fighting the winner of Topuria vs. Gaethje,” Tsarukyan added. “If it’s Topuria, then probably at the end of the year, and if it’s Gaethje, it’ll be September or maybe October.”
Arman Tsarukyan clears up speculation surrounding a potential September fight with Charles Oliveira:

Tsarukyan is currently serving as the backup fighter for the upcoming UFC White House card, but he has revealed he will only fill in if he gets at least one week’s notice so he can safely make weight.
For now, he has two high-profile wrestling matches in front of him for Real American Freestyle (RAF). He takes on Tony Ferguson on June 13, the night before UFC White House, and then one month later, he collides with Colby Covington at RAF 11.
Nevertheless, it’s going to be an active summer for Tsarukyan, who still hopes to finally get his long-awaited title fight at some point this year.
