The all-Monroe Division II nonselect semifinal action between Sterlington and Wossman lived up to the billing.
The four-time defending state champion No. 4 Lady Wildcats are heading back to the title game after defeating the No. 1 Lady Panthers 54-48 on Wednesday, March 4 at Southeastern Louisiana’s University Center.

Among the game's biggest stars were Sterlington junior Austin Carter (24 points, four rebounds) and Wossman senior Ashanti Smith (15 points, eight rebounds, two steals). The Wildcats had a major contribution from sophomore London Landers (13 points, 10 rebounds). She drew an and-one to give her team its first lead and scored eight points during the first quarter.
Juniors Taylar Wright and Makaiya Johnson also turned up the heat for Wossman in the second quarter and combined for 21 points.
Despite the loss, Sterlington still played well during one of its best seasons in school history. Senior Alyssa Randle (13 points, three rebounds, three assists before fouling out in the third quarter) also got hot as she tied the game and later gave the Panthers the lead with less than a minute to go in the half with her free throws.
Senior Jaleeyah Alford added seven points, six rebounds and three assists and made a momentum-swinging 3-pointer with two minutes to go in the game.
