The 2024 season marked the first time the Oklahoma softball team lost two conference series in a year since 2006. As of Monday night, the 2025 Sooners joined the ignominious company.

For most teams, two series losses in a season isn't a big deal. OU softball is a different animal. The No. 2 Sooners fell Monday night to No. 23 Alabama, 2-1, on a walk-off to drop the set. Earlier in the year, No. 7 Tennessee beat Oklahoma in two of three to send OU to its first SEC series loss.

Patty Gasso's team, for the second straight game, couldn't get anything going with the bats. In Sunday's loss, the Sooners picked up just two hits. On Monday, OU picked up six, but left five runners in scoring position in a one-run loss.

Oklahoma's best chance came in the seventh inning when the game was tied, 1-1. The Sooners had the bases loaded with one out, but two of its best two players, Kasidi Pickering and Gabbie Garcia each hit grounders that Alabama threw to home plate to record fielder's choice forceouts and escape trouble.

In the eighth, Audrey Vandagriff deposited the first pitch of the inning from Sam Landry over the left field wall to send the home team off the field joyously.

Nelly McEnroe-Marinas had tied the game with a solo home run in the fourth inning just after Alabama took the lead in the third off a Kali Heivilin RBI double.

Landry gave up both runs on seven hits with two walks and a hit batter while striking out five. Alabama's Catelyn Riley upped her record to 10-1 by giving up just the solo shot to McEnroe-Marinas.

With nonconference play over, Oklahoma has just three weekends of SEC softball remaining. The Sooners are back at Love Field on Friday through Sunday as they host Mississippi State.
