Florida State softball opened up senior weekend with a win over a gritty UNC team. The Seminoles fought off a comeback from the Tar Heels, to get back in the win column.

Recap​

1st Inning​


After Jazzy Francik made a 1-2-3 inning of the Tar Heels, her offense went to work quickly. Isa Torres became with a single, followed by UNC’s Kendall Frost hitting Jaysoni Beachum. With two on base, a walk to Ashtyn Danley loaded the bases. A sacrifice fly gave FSU an early 1-0 lead.

A single from Bella Ruggiero extended the lead, bringing in a second run. Now with two still on base, Kennedy Harp’s homerun made it 5-0.

2nd Inning​


UNC made a call to the bullpen at the end of the first, and put Jil Livenegood back out for the second inning. The one out triple off the bat of Torres placed a runner at third for Beachum, who’s sacrifice fly made it 6-0.

4th Inning​


After three solid innings abasing the Tar Heels, Francik saw baserunners. After a lead off walk, the triple followed by sacrifice fly made it 6-2 for UNC.

In the bottom of the inning, Marin Heller wasted no time getting one run back. The solo shot from the freshman put the ‘Noles back with a five run lead.

5th Inning​


Hinde reached on a throwing error from the UNC short stop, and a double had runners on the corners. With no outs, Harps sacrifice fly made it 8-2 for the home team.

7th Inning​


Makenna Reid took over int he 7th, the first appearance of her senior weekend. Reid secured a fly out before a walk put a runner on base. Clutch defense got the second out, and a single kept the game going. UNC’s walk loaded the bases, and took Reid out of the game. Out of the bullpen, Ashtyn Danley gave up a single, which brought in two runs.

A 8-4 games, with two outs, Danley handled a ball back to the circle, securing the win for the Seminoles.

FSU will look to take the series on Saturday April 18th at 3 pm on ACCN.
