No. 10 Florida State softball continued its dominant run Friday night, mercy-ruling Notre Dame 10-0 in five innings behind timely power, aggressive base running and another strong pitching performance at JoAnne Graf Field.
The Seminoles (34-4, 11-0 ACC) extended their NCAA-leading winning streak to 23 games, overwhelming the Fighting Irish (16-21, 5-9) with double-digit runs for the third time in conference play.
After a scoreless first inning, FSU broke through in the second. Ashtyn Danley doubled to left-center field, and Hayley Griggs followed with her third triple of the season to open the scoring. Makenna Sturgis brought Griggs home on a groundout, and Isa Torres crushed her eighth home run of the season to right field to make it 3-0.
The Seminoles widened the gap in the third. Kennedy Harp hit her fourth homer of the year, and Danley later reached on a single before Jaysoni Beachum drove her in with a deep fly to the warning track in center. A wild pitch allowed Griggs to score, and Marin Heller doubled down the left-field line to plate Torres, pushing the lead to 8-0.
FSU closed out the scoring in the fourth. Angelee Bueno opened the inning with a single, followed by back-to-back singles from Harp and Danley to load the bases. Griggs delivered again, singling up the middle to score two and cap the run-rule victory.
Danley (8-1) earned the win in the circle, allowing one hit over four innings while striking out four. Bella Dimitrijevic worked the fifth, striking out two to preserve the shutout.
