No. 1 UCLA baseball took down UC Irvine 9-1 in their second matchup of the season at Jackie Robinson Stadium in Los Angeles on Tuesday.

The Bruins played the Anteaters back on Tuesday, March 10 and hurried past them with nine-runs in the first inning to defeat them 11-1. This time around, UCLA didn't get off to as an explosive start, but the Bruins pitching unit held the Anteaters in check with 11 strikeouts, while allowing six hits for a run.

Scoring first

UCLA's batters took advantage from UC Irvine's poor performance on the mound by gaining three runs off of a walk, two batters being hit by a pitch and wild pitch. The Anteaters attempted to catch up in the bottom of the first, but they got as far as third base off of two hits before the end of the inning.

Missing runs

Neither team was able to get more than one runner on the bases in the second inning, but opportunities arose in the third. UCLA had the bases loaded in the top of the third with two walks and a hit, but the Bruins didn't take advantage of the situation and ended the inning scoreless. UC Irvine was able to get their only score of the game off of two hits and cut UCLA's lead to two runs.

Getting back to home

The Bruins increased their lead with another run in the top of the fourth, but their aggressiveness at bat cost them more runs with two outs extinguishing their chances with the bases loaded.

Creating distance

UCLA continued to create distance from the UC Irvine in the top of the seventh as a walk with the bases loaded was the first score of what would be a four-run inning. The Bruins scored two more from a single and tacked on their final score in the seventh with a sacrificial fly.

Wrapping it up

In the top of the eighth, the Bruins added their final run of the game, putting them up 9-1. The Anteaters attempted mount a comeback, but their batters were no match for UCLA's bullpen with one hit in the final two innings.
